Running it till the wheels fall off with every day that I am lucky enough to be alive.
Got into a pretty good wreck when I was 20 on one of those long trips. Knew I didn’t feel good, still pushed it, passed out and went straight towards a cliff wall but I got lucky and a motorcycle came around and t-boned me. I took the brunt of the accident, thankfully, as I couldn’t handle hurting someone else. The man was 72 and felt so bad, but also knew that I probably would have killed myself in the other outcome. Ambulance moved me a couple of hundred feet for a life flight, I woke up with my tongue stuck in between my teeth after they wired my jaw shut.. few screws in my leg, plate and screws in my arm, punctured lung, a few good ribs hit. I was allergic to morphine, threw up every pain medication (it sucks doing that with a wired jaw btw) so I swore off pain meds and toughed it out. Pushed myself to walk the required around to leave the hospital (here’s the video) and spent the summer on bed rest. Had a lot of time to think about things and who I wanted to be.
The doctors and nurses kept saying “hope you’re done with motorcycles”. Well, I bought another one 6 months later. My dad rebuilt my bike and I rode it to the same place the next year. Became a certified Harley Technician 3 years after the accident. Have ridden countless miles. Safe to say I’m not done yet. One day it’ll probably take me out.. but I love this life of mine and I wouldn’t change it for the world.
*IG says audio unavailable on this reel so I’m running it back 🤪
