This year I was determined to make running a habit. I drew wisdom and strategies from the book Atomic Habits by @jamesclear The 3 “Ss” 1. Simple: Make it so simple it is hard not to do. I decided that a run counted if I just ran a minimum of 10 mins. It was so short and so simple that I had little excuse not to do the bare minimum- even on the busiest days I could do 10 minutes. What would so often happen is I would go out for 10 and end up running much longer. 2. Stacking: We already have habits. Stacking another habit onto something you already do daily makes the flow or momentum easier. For example, if your goal is to be more grateful, make a decision to focus on 3 things you are grateful for every time you brush your teeth. For me, I get up everyday and stacked my running as the first thing I do after I get up. 3. Streak: Creating a streak was such a good strategy for me. The longer I went, the more I wanted to keep my streak going. I remember the power, sense of accomplishment and momentum I felt when I hit 50 days, 100 days, 250 days, etc. I’m now at 365 days. So much momentum. I am determined to keep the streak going. “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.” ~ Aristotle
