3 days ‘overdue’ with twins that were a surprise until finding out there was two instead of one at her 32 week appointment. We all lovingly anxiously awaited their arrive. With bouts of start and stop labor, it felt like we had been waiting for 4 really long weeks. Finally after seeing her earlier in the office that day, she decided it was truly labor later then day. The team arrived around 9pm, entering through a heavily guarded gate and onto the Southern California Marine Base. Quietly setting up not to wake her older 2 kids, we all sat in awe as she moved her body and slid into the filling birth tub. The intensity of pushing noises filled the room, with a splash caught in the birth pool water underneath her. Within minutes her first baby crowned and with a few pushes, out he came with a very short cord as we maneuvered him around her leg. @victoria_md_birthing and I quickly looked on my phone ultrasound to see the second baby’s position who had been in a breech for the past couple weeks. She was still breech with perfect heart tones. Contractions intensified again, and the super short pulling cord of her son had stopped pulsating, so daddy cut his cord and lifted him into his hands. She quickly announced her water had broke, my hand met her perineum expected to feel a little bum, but much to our surprised, this little bum had hair and was a head, flipping head down as her water broke. Another push and out she came, straight up on to Amanda’s chest to meet her brother. This birth room with filled with nothing but love and no fear. She didn’t have to be in a an operating room because it was protocol. There was no one whisking them away from their mother and each other. It was simply one baby born, and then another. All of us in awe as we witnessed the divine beauty and strength that filled this tiny marine base house that night.
