1/3 of the artwork i created for the windows at @spa_rhed! These pieces were created for @myrtleavebklyn as part of their Black History Month initiative #BlackArtstory. This year's theme is "An Ode to Black Womxn: The Position & Voice of American Democracy." My piece is called Let the Earth Proclaim the Work of Her Hands. Concept: Black Women and Femmes's contributions to the history of our world are undervalued, although our labor is highly sought after. When our labor is ignored, we are not allowed to rest or receive the care we deserve. To conceptualize what it means for Black women’s contributions to the collective history of the United States and the world be honored, I reimagined salon spaces as ‘organic churches,’ green spaces devoted to restoration, peace, healing, and solace. In this newly imagined world, we access healing and adornment as a means of honoring our divine human selves, beings worthy of care.
