Northwest Passage update. September 3rd. 10pm.
We spent the morning de-rigging the boat. Then this afternoon we put it all back together. That was fun.
In between, I met with the crew of a research vessel called the Martin Bergmann about a possible haul out on the other side of Cambridge Bay near the tank farm. The Newfie crew was bending over backward to support us, but at a certain point I realized that we were trying to put a square peg in a round hole.
So Polar Sun is moving on. Tomorrow morning @zartman_rigging and I are setting off for Tuktoyaktuk. Its on the other side of Amundsen Gulf, 650 nautical miles to the west of Cambridge Bay. Should take us 5-6 days.
Sadly, @rudy.le is finally heading home after being with us for 90+ days since we left Maine. Seems like a year ago. I can’t tell you how bummed I am to see him go. A more solid crew member you will never find.
We’ll be off the grid for a while, but for those who haven’t found it yet, the link to our satellite boat tracker is in my bio, and I usually post updates on there when we are out in the hinterlands that don’t appear here on IG. 📸 @renan_ozturk
