Again- we are in the middle of the biggest strike wave in US history since the 1940s. There's a reason mainstream media, news or otherwise, isn't talking about that strike wave. (Local news covers individual strikes sometimes, but nothing about the wave) This strike wave has been going on for the last 2 years. Thousands of work stoppages and strikes- each one ranging from 10s of thousands (like the 15k carpenters that went on strike), down to hundreds and sometimes just dozens. So a large portion of the population is involved with and/or directly coming into contact with these strikes. People changing their world by asserting their collective power in a way that's material and can be measured- more than symbolic. Will we see the reality of this strike wave portrayed in TV and Film? Or will they just do what they always do to labor movements, with a director saying "I wanted to show the corruption that takes place in the labor movement/unions"? And there are many ways to look at these strikes: for instance the SF Airport Food worker strike was mainly people of color empowering themselves. Then there were the teachers in West Virginia a few years ago that did a wildcat strike across the state who were, I believe, mainly White. And then there are stories in most of these strikes of real multi-racial solidarity based on material needs and outcomes, not just some words and intentions. Real soliditary around shared goals.
