Bill Hurt was one of the finest actors I’ve ever worked with. He could be impossible and he could be sweet and gentle, and the latter was the part of Bill I was blessed to know. He was a great character actor trapped inside of the body of a leading man. Take a look at KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN if you want to see him break the bonds of his good looks. I played his best friend in the movie ALTERED STATES in 1980 and our lives diverged after that until 2019 when we were reunited in the TV series CONDOR. He didn’t much like doing television — he was a true theater actor and he loved rehearsing — but he was still thrilling to watch and to work with. My condolences to his wife and family.
