Don’t sleep on these tips. Dr. Chris Winter, a double board-certified sleep specialist, explains that switching up your regular sleeping position becomes necessary as you age. Our bodies change as we grow older but most people stay in a sleeping position for many years. Those dealing with conditions such as sleep apnea, nasal congestion, muscle injuries, and people who are pregnant may need to experiment with a different sleeping position in order to gain the most health benefits. Changing your go-to sleeping position can be quite a challenge, but Dr. Winter shares tips to make the transition easier. For those who want to sleep on their side, sleep specialists suggest taping a tennis ball to the top of the back or with a pillow in between the knees. The tennis ball will provide slight discomfort if a person were to try going back to sleeping on their back while the pillow aligns the spine for maximum side-sleeping comfort. For those who want to try sleeping on their stomach or back, pillows are suggested. A soft pillow under the stomach while sleeping face down can help alleviate pressure. When trying to sleep on your back, create a barrier of pillows on either side to prevent shifting. What is your preferred sleeping position? #sleep
