Still digesting everything after a weekend off the grid at the @islandlakecampofficial reunion. (TL;DR: I entered a building for the first time in 15 (😮‍💨) years that shaped my life, followed by a favorite tradition, “Revival Night,” and some more clips.) I’m not sure I can accurately put into words how special ILC is to me and countless others. I don’t make personal posts anymore but ILC is big exception because nothing means more to me than this place. (A much more typed out version of this post is on my Facebook.) The circus building is the reason I’m a circus artist and stuntwoman, and I’ll NEVER forget my first time on the flying trapeze that seemed to activate a light switch in my brain that’s never turned off. I was the only kid at a camp of 800+ kids who chose all 6 activities in circus. I had no access to circus at home, so I made up for it almost desperately for six hours a day. I’ll never forget one morning at age 13 when I said to myself that 30-year-old me was going to deeply cherish these times and I needed to make sure I captured as much of it as I could, so I glued my video camera to my hand and recorded everything. I’m so glad I did. I brought that same camera with me this weekend with a plan to make one last tape, so I put this together. (The camera malfunctioned so I had to use my phone.) It was still a very strong instinct to record things. It doesn’t look like much and is choppily edited, but I don’t care about the presentation as much as the continent history of memories it’s associated with. I’ll never be able to put the magic of this place into words properly, which makes me laugh because I know I’m not the only one. The friendships you make here are permanent and unconditional. ILC turned me into a motivated, confident, empathetic, kind and resilient person surrounded by, truly, lifelong friends. I’ll forever owe the Stoltz family for giving me that. Thank you for creating a place that makes people safe to be themselves. We’re all so grateful for this place and for you. “ILC you soon” ❤️🏡
