There used to be days when I wouldn't leave the house because of how bad my skin looked. Where I would cancel plans to just stay home. Either because of the big cysts of acne on my face or because of the burned and cracked skin from laser treatments, and dryness from harsh prescription drugs/antibiotics. I would treat my skin like it was a fragile ecosystem — cautious of everything that it touched, fearing it could cause more breakouts. I changed my pillow case on a nightly basis, used clean towels after I washed my face, wouldn't wear sunscreen, and only used oil-free makeup. I did allergen tests and tried eliminating everything out of my diet that I thought could be affecting it. I eliminated dairy, nuts, chocolate, and all animal products. I tried cleanses of all sorts —and even hopped onto some of @danielleduboise ’s crazy diets in hopes that maybe they could help. Despite countless doctors assuring me that food had NOTHING to do with my skin... ⁠ ...but boy, were they wrong. ⁠ ⁠ This was BEFORE I realized that skin health starts on the inside— body, mind, and spirit. And BEFORE I discovered the power of food as medicine and how to live the Sakara Life.⁠ ⁠ Fast forward to now, 10 years into living my Sakara Life and 10 years since seeing a cyst on my face! Nutrition saved my skin... and my confidence.
