We travel all of the time as a family. This was the first year that we did so out of peril. The amount of Airbnbs and temporary homes (including a hospital bed for multiple nights) that we stayed in topped an annual record for us (which is saying a lot). This year physically shook us to our core. But looking back now, it’s so obvious that the beauty of these last twelve months was the amount of support, love, and soft landings given to us by friends, family, and coworkers (shout out to all of the strangers who showed us so much care and grace, even around the globe). And while we often found ourselves in unfamiliar beds, we did so together as a family. I made a point to take my son camping for the first time, once we were more settled in our housing situation. Something about seeking out displacement and the lack of creature comforts (on my terms) was like a warm hug that brought me back to myself. I taught him that sometimes it’s ok to figure out on the day where you’ll sleep, make camp, even if that’s in the rain and while you’re potty training. This year was a reminder that everything is temporary and that home is where the heart is. Thanks to everyone who helped us find our footing again this year. We love you all.
