Happy to unveil ‘Bridges’ a very special commission I’m doing for the Spreepark in Berlin, a famous and full of history place; first and only amusement park in East Germany, very important also for the music scene in the 80s. The park has been closed for 20 years and will reopen to the public in 2025. I’ve been working on this project for almost two years now, and will be on it for some more. It’s a long and very interesting process from which I’ve been learning a lot. The park will keep the ruins of the ancient mechanic attractions, preserving the wild nature and mixing it with installations by five different artist. On my side I proposed to do the bridges that connect a central island to the park. I’m very excited of the collaboration with curator Katja Aßmann who’s been a great interlocutor, with the Spreepark team, with the landscape architects and the engineers. Can’t wait to see the project evolve step by step! 🎡🎢🦕🌾🌿 *** ** * About “Bridges” . A bridge reconcile two irreconcilable places, it’s a negotiation, a passage. A bridge it’s a political gesture, a caress, a kiss. Yes, we can kiss on top of a bridge, we can meet in a bridge. A bridge is also place, a floating space, a place in between borders, a flow, a wave. A bridge is somewhere to cross or to stay, to pass by or to contemplate, a bridge is a view and a point of view. These five bridges have all variations and propose different ways to negotiate with this connexion in between places. They all follow basic principles of torsion that create for each one a different sense and meaning. There’s a classic curve that goes up and down, and inverted one that goes down into the water and remerges. Another is made by two curves that almost touch (kiss) letting visible a small gap, an accident, a void. There’s a circular bridge that creates a water well in the middle, maybe a place to make a wish, and there’s a bridge that get interrupted and become a platform, a point of view, a place for contemplation.
