Confabulations, 2020/2022 #FUGUES at OV: No tears left to cry 29/6 - 28/8/2022 at Museum of Contemporary Art, Zaghreb “FUGUES” is a collection of over a hundred images photographed as a daily diary-like practice. The fugue is a compositional technique, which repeats and imitates one or several elements over time to create an interwoven, polyphonic canon of voices. “FUGUES”’ seriality narrates stories of collective affect in looped time and the deep-rooted human desire to install pattern and control into chaos. Psychiatric terminology defines the ‘fugue-state’ as the dreamlike, altered state of consciousness, in which one performs acts in seemingly full awareness but upon recovery cannot recall them anymore. A mental refuge, created as a defence by the psyche, to shelter the human ego from overwhelming feelings. Zooming in, the constructed constellations are comprised of mundane objects found in the domestic sphere. Together they form a soothing microcosm of interrelated players, who keep on growing and decaying simultaneously. Zooming out onto the macro level, they provide an image of time passing and the entanglement of all that is organic and inorganic.
