Dear future parent, Here are some truths, as much as can be told, about this amazing and insane and amazingly insane role called ‘parent’. First off, know you will be pushed beyond all bounds of what you currently know to be true. You will be tested daily on your own capacity of patience, fortitude, personal growth and generational healing. You will feel TIRED...not like a poor nights sleep tired...like your soul will feel as though it’s caught in the undertow of the waters-tired. You will feel as though you do not know what you’re doing...both as a parent and simply as yourself, because both of these are now completely new roles you must learn and in real time. You will have moments of being completely and utterly overwhelmed and when you can’t possibly understand how you can find the balance another day.... you will see the way this little human looks at you and all of it will melt away. Their smile and laughter will fuel your spirit in immeasurable amounts. Their curiosity towards life will refresh what you have been so conditioned to forget and the intricacies of world will infuse color into all that has been seemingly monochromatic. This love will be so foreign, because it is like nothing else you will have ever thought possible and it will be so beautiful in all of its strangeness. You will not be perfect.
