I’m just reading now on East Bay Ray’s twitter that the great drummer Darren Henley better known as DH Peligro is no longer with us. I’m so sad to hear this. What a beautiful musician. His playing on Plastic Surgery Disasters alone is incredible. I loved his book “Dreadnaught: King of Afro Punk”. The book especially the beginning stands among some of the great music autobiographies like Art Pepper’s “Straight Life” or Mingus’ “Beneath the Underdog” In it he beautifully describes his St Louis roots and painfully vividly describes his childhood and clashes culturally and the adventure that lead him to San Francisco and his joining the Dead Kennedys. It was incredible to learn that he was related to the great singer James Carr who’s version of “On the Dark Side of the Street” is one of my favorite. He seemed like a beautiful person.
