What better way to celebrate #NationalAviationDay than with some history of California's oldest airport? LGB's early origins took flight with biplanes taking off and landing on the beach in the early 1900s, serving as the inspiration for greats such as Amelia Earhart to catch the flying bug. In 1941, our historic terminal was dedicated but didn't open for business until 1942 due to WWII. Today, our footprint - including over 200 businesses - covers 1,166 acres. Next year, we are looking forward to celebrating 100 years of Long Beach Airport!
