In honor of this year’s Julia Child Award recipient, Grace Young, the Foundation is proud to award a $10,000 grant to the Honolulu-based Chef Hui organization, along with four other non-profit organizations working to support Chinatown and AAPI communities across the country. Chef Hui brings together local cooks and food service providers throughout Hawai’i to serve the community and deepen connections to the food system. Through their Give & Go Community Meal Program, which started in 2020, Chef Hui has partnered with more than 60 restaurants and served more than 100,000 meals to communities in need. Chef Hui is using their funding to work with two local family-owned restaurants to provide meal vouchers in November and December as a special celebration for Chinatown residents during the holidays. Sing Cheong Yuan Bakery has been a popular Chinatown spot for the last forty years and is a one-stop shop for lucky dried fruits, li see candy, char siu bao, peanut candy, almond cookies, banana roll mochi and pork hash. Royal Kitchen opened in 1974, with a vision of bringing baked manapua to Honolulu and it is now a local favorite, available with eleven different fillings. Stay tuned to learn about the other non-profits the Foundation is supporting on behalf of Grace Young receiving the 2022 Julia Child Award. @stirfryguru
