“Seeing an elder turn on the lights in their home for the first time is a powerful feeling.” - Deb Tewa, Native Renewables Workforce & Education Manager Communities within the Navajo and Hopi nations have some of the best solar resources in the country, and yet, thousands of Navajo and Hopi families lack access to electricity. Some families rely on fossil fuels for light and short-term power and have been waiting years to be connected to the grid. These families are the perfect candidates for off-grid solar energy solutions. In 2021, the @honnoldfoundation worked with @nativerenewables to bring solar to eight families, and funded job-training programs and subsequent employment for three community members. Now, we've renewed and expanded that commitment; in 2022, we'll help Native Renewables to bring solar installations and employment opportunities to an additional 8 homes and 5 more trainees.
