We say leopards are the most elusive cats in the savanna, yet cheetahs are the rarest. With only about 6 000 cheetahs remaining on the planet, to encounter one of them is to be very lucky, but to encounter 2 of them is a true blessing. Build for super speed, they only spend 12% of their day moving around to hunt. Indeed, unlike most cats, cheetahs mainly hunt in the day. Their distinctive black “tear marks” running from their eyes act like sunglasses, helping them to pick a prey at a very great distance. Did you know the name cheetah comes from a Hindi word, chita, meaning “spotted one”? Each cat has a unique spot pattern, proving a great camouflage.
