Reading bell hook’s words we can’t help but realise that in a world of manifested differences culturally or linguistically amongst Black people whether Siddi, African American, Afro-Brazilian, Ikelan or Haratin (exonyms with negative connotations but we advise reading more on these groups of Black people) etc we understand that ours is a shared struggle and that we can never actualise Black liberation if we ignore our collective struggle for the differences amongst us.
We must all be reminded that Black isn’t a monolith. We don’t all possess identical privileges, oppressions, goals, desires or beliefs, in short we are human.
As such we may never truly be identical and this in no way grants one the right to “mitigate” another’s Blackness on the basis of differences most often gender or sexuality.
