Walking with Amal is so many things, including pure magic. When the carousel started up, and the Sibylant Sisters appeared, as the sounds of Sxip Shirey’s band lit up the air, I felt so overcome by gratitude that the characters from this story I’ve been bringing to life for so long could make their way into the world through such a portal. It was everything, and very overwhelming. Amal and the Sibylant Sisters first connected over experiencing the kinds of uncertainty and trauma that children shouldn’t have to go through, and yet, in that way of children, the moment they shared was one of transporting beauty.
