2️⃣4️⃣ years of BBC Radio 1 memories! Day 2️⃣4️⃣: I’ve had a lot of incredible messages from people who have said our show has got them through the highs and lows of everyday life, and has been the soundtrack to coming home from school, going to uni, their first job, break ups, dark times and so much more. Radio is intimate. It’s personal. It’s routine. You feel like we are all mates. That is the radio I’ve always wanted to create. But behind the scenes there are so many immensely talented and creative people who love radio as much as I do. Like REALLY love it. And they deserve as much (I actually think more) credit than me. The various teams I’ve been lucky enough to work with over 24 years work HARD. This is not a 9-5 job. The show you hear would not even be half as good without these talented people. I think that a show really needs one thing to function properly. And that is treating each other well and working together. It’s a shared love of making each show the best you can make it. If you were to walk through our studio anytime over the last 24 years I would hope you feel a positive vibe, with people smiling and laughing, saying yes instead of no, little if any conflict, with amazing team spirit. A lot of people have said this is why they always wanted to work on our show, and (hopefully) loved it when they did. I’m proud that we have always had a studio environment that is positive, hard working and FUN. To all of the truly brilliant people who have worked on this show over the last 24 years, Thankyou SO much.
