TONIGHT 🌊 ART FOR OUR OCEANS, presented by The Territorial Council, Art Saint Barth and Parley for the Oceans, brings together world-renowned contemporary artists to raise awareness of the climate crisis and highlight the beauty, fragility, and threats facing our oceans. In the exhibition Art for our Oceans opening this Friday 16 December at the Wall House Museum, presented by The Territorial Council, Art Saint Barth x Parley, renowned artist Doug Aitken’s video installation Underwater Pavilions will be unveiled. The film explores three remarkable sculptures and distils an otherworldly experience by immersing viewers in an underwater realm. Chronicling the artworks—from installation to their encounters with divers and aquatic life—the installation tunes viewers into the rhythm of the ocean and its lifecycles, as the structures adjust with the currents and time of day. Viewers experience a variety of converging perceptual encounters that play with the fluidity of time and space, where the language of contemporary architecture, land art, and ocean research begins to merge. The exhibition will also feature artworks from artists who have supported Parley for the Ocean’s mission: Nigel Cooke, Jiří Georg Dokoupil, Katharina Grosse, Jeppe Hein, Jenny Holzer, Julio Le Parc, Vik Muniz, Ed Ruscha, Kenny Scharf, Rosemarie Trockel. ART FOR OUR OCEANS aims to highlight the ecology of the island, with the support of the L'Agence Territoriale de l'Environnement, and the local associations to protect the island of St Barth and the surrounding Caribbean Islands. Through the exhibition we invite you to explore the artistic perspectives of the oceans and to discover new ways of creating, thinking and living. The artist surfboards unite the worlds of art and surfing as a messenger for the cause.
