“Onwards!” - A project by @ccontourr releases 10/7 via @touching_bass pre order available via @bandcamp.⁣ ⁣ Late last year I made a connection with @alexritaa via her monthly @nts_radio show “Calm roots”. I felt the strong need to reach out and thank her for the special contribution she created through the careful curation of sounds that made a significant impact on me...from there a relationship began. ⁣ ⁣ A few months later I received an email from Alex and @errol.and about a potential opportunity to make the photos for Khari’s “Onwards!” record under @touching_bass. Upon first listen, I felt compelled. They believed that together we would make something special. ⁣ ⁣ That we did but not until the cosmos had it’s way first. Having someone sit and be photographed that you have never met is a delicate place to enter into. Up until then, the three of us had only interacted virtually. Its not easy to invite anyone into your space and expect there to be instant trust, so I asked Khari if we could spend the first day at a studio in Brooklyn, hoping for a version of Khari that felt more familiar to him. The next day he came over to my home and we locked in a bit more than the day before. Exposure after exposure was made...⁣ ⁣ The next day I developed each roll only to be met with blank exposures...Heart broken and defeated I messaged Alex and we got on a phone call as soon as we could. Gently I was met with a tremendous amount of understanding, support and empathy for what took place. ⁣ ⁣ Instead of giving into the low frequency of the situation, I explained that possibly the camera and I needed more time with Khari. That there was more to unpack, more to sit with, more to get down to the bottom of. ⁣ ⁣ As it turns out, Khari was scheduled to come back to New York the following weekend and made time to sit with me once more with an openness that I have no words for. Couldn’t be more happy with the way things turned out. Khari, I am beyond happy and proud of you. Thankful to call you, Alex and Errol family. ⁣ ⁣ I’m indebted to the three of you for the immense amount of trust and freedom you so freely gave me throughout this process. Forever thankful. 🖤
