New works by Hank Willis Thomas, José Parlá and Ena Swansea on our booth (200) at The Armory Show in New York.
Hank Willis Thomas uses Matisse's iconic paper cutouts as his departure point and creates a framed quilt out of Premier League footballer's shirts. This piece fits into a body of work that Thomas has been developing over a number of years that looks at how sport and politics have parallels and overlap.
José Parlá's new trio of works are explosions of colour and energetic creativity. They are titled 'Equinox', 'Harvest' and 'Autumn'; appropriate titles for works that look almost sun ripened and bursting with life.
Ena Swansea's 'abandoned Nascar racetrack' is an evocative work that perfectly captures low sunlight pouring through the canopy of trees. She often uses colours in expressive ways to highlight an emotion that resonated with the place and her own personal experience.
