21 years ago, and we still remember and pay our respects to the thousands that perished on September 11th, and the countless lives that were lost in its aftermath.
September 11th means many things to many people. Our city, country, and world, forever changed that beautiful, blue morning. We hold space for all who are still in mourning and navigating their post-9/11 realities.
To those who lost their lives in the Towers.
To those who succumbed to the dust and rubble.
To those who are still missing.
To the countless first responders, trained and untrained, who rushed to help their fellow New Yorkers.
To those who are still battling health complications from that day.
To those who lost their lives on flights AA11, AA77, UA175, and UA93, representing Australia, Canada, China, Colombia, Ecuador, El Salvador, Ethiopia, France, Germany, Guyana, Indonesia, Iran, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Lebanon, Morocco, New Zealand, the Philippines, Puerto Rico, Sierra Leone, South Korea, Switzerland, the U.K., U.S., Uruguay, Vietnam, Virgin Islands, and Zambia.
To NYC’s (and the nation’s) Muslim communities that experienced (and continue to experience) xenophobia, islamophobia, increased surveillance, and over policing in 9/11’s wake.
To the thousands of innocent Iraqi civilians who died for the crimes of a few, lost loved ones, and endured destabilization as a result of the eight-year war.
We honor you.
If anyone would like to share anything from that day, from a memory to the name of a lost loved one, this is a safe (digital) space to do so.
Luz y progreso 🤍🗽🕯
