My new public sculpture “Devonian” is now on view at @southbankcentre London! A @bagrifoundation & @hayward.gallery commission, the work consists of 8 iridescent aluminum panels inspired by the shapes of creatures that constitute the basis of oil deposits in the northern hemisphere. Their fossils were first studied in the red sandstone in Devon, hence the title. The work attempts to capture the moment when these organisms merged together and crystallized into petroleum, which took 400 million years to form, and highlights how we carelessly burn this prehistoric material in one milisecond in our modern world.
