Our booth at Independent 20th Century presents five paintings by Joan Miró from the summer of 1936. Using tar, sand, and other unconventional materials on masonite surfaces, Miró furthered his lifelong goal to “assassinate painting.” Peter Fischli joins Miró in exploring material boundaries, but from the field of sculpture. From cardboard, newspaper, and chalk, Fischli’s “cans” meet Miró’s masonites to celebrate the radical potential of a non-traditional artistic medium.
