Of the 43,923 votes Mitch O’Farrell took over his decade in office, he had the courage to stand up and vote "no" against the majority just 21 times — or 1 out of every 2000 votes.
Mitch voted to support the death penalty, against LAPD accountability, and more. Let's take a look 🧵
The Corporate Landlord Lobby alone spent over $1 million for my opponent in his primary loss and half of his campaign money comes from Big Real Estate, so it's no surprise that Mitch was the *only* vote against asking the City Attorney to prepare the ban on developer donations.
Another came when Mitch was the *only* vote opposing a report into racial, sexual, and gender harassment at the LAFD.
After his No vote, women came forward and reported traumatizing harassment that involved sexual misconduct, maggots, and human feces.
*Two* of those meager 21 votes were to preserve the death penalty!
That's not just out of touch with our community and the local Democratic Party, it also overwhelmingly targets Black and Brown folks — many of whom are wrongfully accused.
Prop 47 passed in 2014 and reduced incarceration while investing millions in mental health treatment, programs for youth, and victim services.
Instead of supporting Prop 47 with most of the state and City Council, Mitch sided with Tucker Carlson and right-wing fear-mongers.
It keeps going! Out of that half of one tenth of one percent of the time Mitch stood up to vote no against the majority, one was siding AGAINST renter protections at the very beginning of the pandemic — when families needed support the most!
And it gets even worse. When the LAPD clearly profiled a black film producer and pulled guns on him for no reason, Mitch was one of just two votes against a settlement.
It's unacceptable to stand so flagrantly against even marginal acts of justice.
We need a coalition-builder and a fighter for the community in City Council — not a rubber stamp for policies written by lobbyists and billionaire campaign donors.
