Turtley awesome! New footage released by the Wildlife Conservation Society show hundreds of thousands of baby giant South American turtles hatching in the western Amazon basin. The video, documented with technologies such as drones and thermal imaging cameras to count the species, shows millions of turtle hatchlings emerging from sandy beaches along the Guaporé/Inténez River on the border between Brazil and Bolivia. According to scientists, an estimated number of 80,000 adult female turtles gathered on these beaches in mid-September to dig nests and lay eggs. The babies began to hatch in mid-December and continued through early January. #Turtles
