Riddle us this. Why did a European building burning get more global support and outrage than most of the injustices Black, Brown & Indiegnous folks have faced at the hands of white supremacists systems and individuals. . Closer to home, why did the Elon Musk post do better than our recent post highlighting white supremacy in legal guardianship & adoption practices in Uganda. However ascribed both occurrences are, it will differ amongst individuals but a common factor considered is how unbalanced or better yet, shifty the common understanding and practice of Global Solidarity is. . To quote the words of Abdu’l-Bahá “What profit is there in agreeing that universal friendship is good, and talking of the solidarity of the human race as a grand ideal? Unless these thoughts are translated into the world of action, they are useless. The wrong in the world continues to exist just because people only talk of their ideals, and do not strive to put them into practice. If actions took the place of words, the world's misery would very soon be changed into comfort.” . The pattern for solidarity is often tied to how much of a benefit it puts them in. Remember that whiteness and for that matter capitalism has always been about individualism and the exploitation of others in various ways for one single reason, benefit of the self. . Majority of the solidarity claims are a faux, emphasised on the volume of silence when it comes to creating awareness on the recent murder of unarmed Chris Kaba, who was unlawfully murdered by armed police ( Check out @ievault to keep up to date with information about any actions Chris’s family will be taking.) Or the global inaction when it comes to the recent floods that are mostly affecting Black & Brown countries. Again to articulate this clearly, the amount of people & organisations who cared to raise awareness for Notre Dame is way more in contrast to those who have cared to raise awareness for the over 50 million people in Pakistan who are affected by the flooding.
