💈 Front Leg Lines 💈 Horses have a perfect muscle line for us to use as a guide when clipping the front leg lines! I like to take my line just below the point of the elbow, and then about 1-2” lower on the inside of the armpit. Taking the line lower on the inside of the legs is a great idea because - • sweat and grease can build up in the skin folds - clipping the hair can make it easier to clean this area properly. • it removes long hair (most often seen on native ponies/cobs/heavy breeds) - this long hair can get caught on tack, or become matted from sweat/mud, all of which is very uncomfortable for the horse. When clipping the armpit, you should use small trimmers rather than large clippers. The skin in this area is very delicate, and it’s easy to knick the skin with the wider spaced blade teeth on large clippers. It’s not necessary to pull the leg forward when using small clippers, as the blade teeth are very close together. You can use your free had to stretch and manipulate the skin. Great if you don’t have someone to help you!
