Part2 of the fantastic Ana María in her mum Vanessa’s words PLEASE READ: She still needs to use some equipment to sleep. I learned so much from other moms, they gave me support and faith, I try to do the same. I think doctors cannot tell us everything from the beginning, it would be devastating... you just get used to living like this, step by step, every 3 months you know what the next phase will be... I started to enjoy life in the present, because at first I had the illusion that i could plan the future, but there was nothing more wrong than that. Ana María inspired all our family, all her friends, anyone who knows her can see through her. It was kind of her idea to explain the accident and the healing process in her school, to stop all the staring and fear around her. From there, I created our association to raise awareness on burn accidents and support other children. Today I am so proud of her, all that she has overcome and the way she sees life so simple, so much happiness around. If people knew how beautiful her scars are, all the jobs so many professionals have done so she can do all the normal things: go to school, play the guitar, practice sports, write... Scars are underestimated, they are the marks of the warriors, unique as a masterpiece. They need massages, stretching, creams, and skin grafts, and sometimes lasers on them. Every surgery comes with more equipment to wear, pressure garments and a stop to sports to help heal the skin properly.
