I’m interested in plants which bear the label “invasive.” There is something fascinating about the resilience of these plants and, as someone obsessed with flora, I’m curious about how we as a species might better work with them. Here in the northeast, there is an overgrowth of Japanese barberry and phragmites. In the photo above, I’m standing in front of a wall of phrag that is attempting to take over the natural wetlands at @vanishingpointfarm. I’ve wondered if anyone has tried making paper from the reeds? Traditionally, it was used in the thatch roofing trade. My yellow shirt was dyed using Japanese barberrry I cut and brought to @caramariepiazza. Besides the beautiful dye it renders, I’ve heard its fruit is edible.
