In January I went to the Carpathians to work on my diploma project. Since then my subject has changed, the context of the project has changed, the whole world has changed. I remember the moment when I took this picture — me and @sashohodimo were going down the mountain at sunset. It was mid-January, probably the coldest period in this region, Sasha came to help me with the equipment and we experienced amazing adventures there: we spoke to a hermit who has been living in the forest for 12 years, we climbed a mountain despite wind and snow, a stray dog showed us the way in the forest when we got lost... Even if “it will end soon” (the phrase which people in Europe say so often and which I started to hate) something inside us got broken forever. It’s a deep collective trauma which we, as Ukrainians, experience now. All the people who lost their lives, relatives and homes, all the women who got raped, all the children who became orphans... We share this pain together, the whole nation is bleeding. A dark heavy cloud of sorrow is above our heads, wherever we go. It’s the end of April, sun is shining and trees are blossoming, the smell of spring is in the air, but it feels like the time has stopped since the 24th of February.
