The Hungry Creatures album cover shoot was the first album artwork we ever worked on and Ryan was the first person to entrust us with his music and bring an album to life visually. To this day it is our proudest work and an experience we reflect on often. Capturing Ryan and Space Gators spirit visually was no simple task because what made him Ryan couldn’t be simplified. He was putting his life’s work in music on the line for this release and together alongside the full band we delivered work that breathed his exuberance, curiosity, edge, but above all his love for all the weird and wonderful. He put his whole heart into every note, mix, idea, and every hang out. He wasn’t interested in playing safe and that’s how this perfectly bizarre and maximal shoot came to be. I still remember the light in his eyes when we showed him the initial drawings (last slide sketched at Sleeping Village before a Space Gators show) and how purely thrilled he was over the simplest details. That chaotic, joyous, and deeply collaborative process was exactly who he was and why we connected over this idea. For as long as we live we’ll continue to pour ourselves into every project with the same enthusiasm and boldness that Ryan brought into our lives.
