A common misconception about gray coverage is that you need to use a darker color to cover it, but that’s far from the truth. Using a darker color actually makes the gray more noticeable sooner, as it creates a high contrast with the new gray growth. Instead, matching the client’s natural level or even going a shade lighter can provide a softer grow-out, helping the color blend better over time. This approach keeps the look natural and reduces the need to come in sooner for touch-ups. For this new client we will continue to go lighter each appointment using a 1/2 shade lighter each time. A lighter base will allow her to go a little longer in between appointments.
