Tips and tricks for creating fantasy forest photography! With @jelenia_jest_spoko / "This photograph was taken in the Rudawy Janowickie mountains, Poland. I enjoy taking pictures in the mist and showing how different elements emerge from the fog, so I immediately fell in love with the hazy light and the pyramid shape created by these trees. I edit a lot of my photos for novels, as I am a fantasy writer too, and the following are my tips and tricks to capture fantasy forest photos: 1. Envision the final idea and find a location that could represent a fictional world. Get inspired, and use any resources that push your creativity. As the ideas flow, put those you like on a notepad. By doing so, you will visualize the ideas differently. 2. Think about what you want to shoot and the main subject that will allow you to bring your ideas to life. 3. Have different location choices. I feel inspired by the forests because they offer magical and mysterious feelings, especially on cloudy and rainy days when the light breaks through the clouds and softly touches the branches, at sunrise and sunset, or when the fog covers them partially. Areas richly wooded can be a good start - hardwood and softwood forests with beeches, larches, and so on. 4. Plan how to execute the photos on location. In this case, the forest view was spectacular. I used my Sony A7RIII and my favorite lens, 200-600mm and 70-200mm, to focus on these trees. Focusing on your subject from a distance, cropping out distracting elements, and zooming in on details within the composition can make a difference and help you tell the story in the shot. 5. Colour is one of the most crucial elements in creating fantasy photography. When editing colors, I always decide what is best in each image by referring to the color wheel, helping me determine which primary and secondary work well in my photo together. I selected an analogous color scheme - green family - for this edit to create a pleasing image and made the yellows pop out to add a dreamy look. Try to stay true to the colors found in nature and use harmonious shapes to create a good composition. Then use the light to create that fantasy feeling!”
