Marie Hazard - “homes” In January 2022, during my residency in Brazil, I started weaving small tapisseries in São Paulo, without having a loom. Instead I created my own loom: by putting nails around a 15x15 frame, so I could weave my own textiles. I bought threads and beads from shops in the area I was living. I worked with whatever I could find, which was limited but it made me incorporate new materials I haven’t used before. I like working this way, as it similarizes the simple was of living in Sao Paulo. I made 30 works which represent what are the definitions of homes. They can represent a tent, a church, a window, a chair, a bag but also hope. Because hope is everywhere. I continued this work in Mexico in march and later in my own home in Paris. The sentence I embroidered « sans chance pas de hasard pas de chance sans hasard pas de hazard sans chance » is also my way to define hope in a more conceptual way speaking about the place we want to be. @mariehazard #mariehazard
