Two weeks ago I spent a day had a half hand-cutting grass for an installation at @rwguild . A literal study of a field. I worked from sunrise to sunset listening to the crows whiny gossiping, softly singing to the wild turkeys cautiously chaperoning their young through the fields and clapping ‘round the lilac tree whenever the robins would sound the alarm of an incoming fox raid on their nest. I loved every minute. I hand-cut 173 bunches of grass in 36 hours. My team and I mixed the bundles with Pine and Asparagus from NJ, cut by @spadaflora, to create a billowing field in the arch that joins @lamercerieny to @rwguild. For years I’ve dreamed of different installation pieces with a favorite flora - grass inflorescence. Thank you to Robin Standefer for your trust in allowing me to bring this to life in your space. Thank you to my dearest @simonebodmerturner for the generous use of your home and fields. This grass is a variety of eragrostis- lovegrass (which name is almost too much given my love for grass) and was cut from fields in New Salem, Massachusetts on the unceded and ancestral territory of the Nipmuc, Pocumtuc, and Wabanaki peoples who stewarded this land through generations.
