Did you know? When you make a gift to the Honnold Foundation, 100% of your donation goes directly to our work. Our organization is committed to operating as leanly as possible so that we can deploy funding to as many solar energy Partners as possible. As a matter of principle and practicality, @alexhonnold lives as simply as possible. The Honnold Foundation is an extension of that ethic. However... While this ethos works for our organization, it doesn't, and shouldn't work for all nonprofits. Nonprofits are frequently beholden to their donors, and many donors assume that the effectiveness of a nonprofit can be determined by the percentage of its budget that goes towards its primary Programs, vs. general operating funds. Here at the Honnold Foundation, we understand— when you make a donation, whether it's $5 or $5000, you want to feel like it's impacting the community you aim to support. While nonprofits should absolutely maintain a strict ethical standard of maximizing donor dollars towards impact, it shouldn't be at the expense of investing in building a strong and effective organization. Limitations and misconceptions around overhead costs generate wage disparity between the nonprofit and for-profit sectors, create a culture of burn-out at organizations that underpay and overwork their staff, and, ultimately, don't create environments where the organizations doing the most important work can flourish. The result? Less intellectual capital in nonprofits, increasingly homogenized workforces (how many people are unable to work in the nonprofit sector due to lack of economic opportunity?), and, ultimately, less vital work being accomplished. At HF, we're committed to supporting Partners holistically; while each of our grants are made towards specific solar projects, they're always unrestricted funding, leaving our Partners with the flexibility to focus on what matters most: their impact. đŸ“¸ : @350org solar technicians in training
