Did you know that you can inherit trauma? Research shows that the effects of trauma can be passed down through generations. This area of science is called epigenetics and it's fascinating. That means that if your parents or grandparents experienced a little t or big T trauma it can be passed down to YOU. Let's digest this a little more. These traumatic experiences become a part of your unconscious (aka not aware of it). Have you ever had that moment when you think, "gosh nothing around this topic ever happened to me but I am SO____ about it?" These fears and trauma become a part of your own narrative and drive your unconscious decisions. I used to have a fear around motorcycles. It started with my grandpa, was passed down to my mom and then... ME. Once I became conscious of the fear for what it was, not mine. I was then able to move it out of my body and regulate my nervous system. By discerning between what was MY story vs. GENERATIONAL/FAMILY story it allowed me to have my own opinion about motorcycles. It led me to get conscious around my own fears and beliefs instead of what I inherited as my fears/beliefs/trauma/stories, etc. It allowed me to feel empowered to get my motorcycles license in 2017 and ride my sister-in-laws bike the other week. By doing this work and healing generational trauma it gives YOU the gift to discern what is truly yours vs what is not.
