PLEASE READ THESE BOOKS. Or at least swipe left and read this excerpt from “Blink”. The concepts and examples explored by one of my favorite authors, Malcom Gladwell, specifically in “Blink” and “Talking With Strangers” are profoundly important to have in the forefront of your mind right now, especially for non-black people to educate themselves on unconscious racism. If you know you won’t read the whole book here is an important excerpt from Blink, Chapter Three Part 2. “Blink in Black and White”, which introduces a psychological study called the Implicit Association Test (IAT). Just reading this will not change things on its own but at the least bring systemic problems to light that we all need to be aware of. . And for length purposes I will not put another excerpt but rather implore you to at least read through these parts of Talking with Strangers: Introduction “Step Out of the Car!” and the “Sandra Bland” chapter. The audiobook is recommended for Talking With Strangers specifically as you will hear voices of people interviewed.
