Back home on a sweltering NYC afternoon, biking around Manhattan with my favorite people, my son Jonathan and his longtime girlfriend Erin. We happened upon this site, the inspiration for where my main character Ralphie - in my children’s book “The Adventures of Ralphie the Roach” - lived. It was co-written with my best friend Joanne Russell, and illustrated by my stepson Adam Otcasek. A family affair. Yes, a children’s book about those nice NYC cockroaches.😁 This spot is in reality a tiny Catholic church named Our Lady of the Rosary, down in the southernmost point of the island. ( I have no proof they actually have roaches.) To me, this epitomizes NYC, the oldest and the newest next to one another, a contrast that is to me always somehow exciting.
