“The point of least resistance” As the first edition of @independent_hq 20thCentury art fair comes to a close we wanted to go back to the first time Peter Fischli ever made sculptures from card and paper. In 1980, while working in Los Angeles, Fischli and Weiss began their collaboration with a series of short films depicting the adventures of Rat and Bear, two figures who explore different places in the city’s urban landscape. After a failed shooting of an episode in an art gallery the duo was forced to make their own art in just a couple of hours before the location was closed. The imaginary artist’s works, however, continued to occupy their thoughts over the years, and re-emerged recently in a new fascinating body of sculptures that raises questions about the nature of the medium and its borders. #peterfischli #fischliweiss #independentartfair #luxembourgco
