Me = Sobbing. @brandy waltzed so that @hallebailey could swim. I remember when this was announced conservative people/critics were flipping their wigs at the thought of a black Ariel. Making ignorant comments like “How is she going to have red hair” and “She wasn’t black in the movie!” Welp, Jesus wasn’t white in the Bible; so I guess we can take some artistic liberties can’t we? Anyway, here she is, the chocolate Ariel I’ve always dreamed of, complete with red hair...giving new life to a song that almost didn’t make the 1989 film and yes Halle YOU ARE PART OF THAT WORLD. A lot of you may not know this, but I am seriously considering having a child soon and I’m so grateful for the change I see in the world, specifically in representation in entertainment because I want my children to believe they can be anything in the world, that obviously includes mermaid princesses lol. Now a whole new generation of kids can fall in love with this classic tale and get to see themselves. My heart is so full & I’m so unbelievably happy. As a kid, I felt like resonated with Disney movies in a way that was next level in comparison to my peers, but I feel like there was always something missing. Come on May 2023!!! I will be there with merchandise, dolls, t shirts, pop corn, a “dinglehopper” and tissues in hand. This is historical and game changing. Bravo Disney, BRAVO and congratulations Halle...Dreams do come true. “Impossible things are happening every day.”
