Five principles to capture alpine photos like @karolnienartowicz! / "I grew up surrounded by the Karkonosze Mountains. For many years, I photographed these mountains, and finally, in 2016, I became a full-time photographer.
1. To be a professional mountain photographer, get comfortable with hiking in the dark first. Most people cannot be in the high mountains in the middle of the night in winter. So these photos are intriguing and catch the attention of the viewer. It is gratifying to share these moments that many do not witness and introduce them to some hidden magical views.
2. Camping is an alternative. I usually know before the trip where I will be putting up my tent; I look for spots in social media and books or find them with the help of Google Earth. For these trips, I use an expedition tent. Furthermore, I use standard camping equipment such as sleeping mats, Jetboil cookers, and a down sleeping bag.
3. Once you have reached a summit, it is worth waiting to see how the conditions change. For example, to shoot the fifth image of this series, I waited for the clouds to clear up, trusting the weather forecast.
However, the mist disappeared first in the north. That is why I started shooting in that direction - instead of the south. So you want to look for opportunities and try to be flexible with your initial ideas.
4. I took a few photos at this location, but it seemed incomplete because there was one element missing that would attract attention - a person to match the scale of the place. Since I was alone, I had to pose for the photo myself. I set the camera to the interval shooting function and went to the edge of the ridge. Although it seems very far in the image, I only walked 30-40 meters. The wide-angle lens did the rest.
5. The secret of this shot is in the frame – a person standing on the edge always looks brave and mystical. But it is not only that; The mood of winter nights in the high mountains is always breathtaking. I tried to capture in a photo the atmosphere of the place and the cold that accompanied me during the 7 hours I spent there."
