Having myself failed spectacularly at my relationships- I keep looking to couples that make it through. What’s their secret?
What I can I learn?
From Mistie and Todd, I’ve understood what bonds them - their glue - is humor.
They laugh more together than anyone I’ve ever met. They find each other hilarious. While they are deeply grateful for their blessings, they laugh their heads off at their misfortunes. They gently tease one another, they make fun of themselves, and they laugh and laugh.
Many people back away from scary words like cancer. And dying. My husband never wanted to talk about it. He called it depressing.
While doing so many fun things: having a three hour dinner at Charlotte’s in the county, hanging by the pool in the heat, going to for a tour of the FDR mansion, and then driving back to NYC for another long dinner at my favorite Mexican place, Mistie and I and Todd (and sometimes my son Oliver) talked. About everything. Our families and jobs and friends, but also some really deep stuff.
Some might call it depressing. But when you really open up to listen and communicate, what it really is - is nourishing.
I’ve learned so much from Mistie and Todd. About love. About life and living it to its fullest. About the importance of laughter.
About gratitude. Some things are sad. Some are really hard. But when you chose to acknowledge them and laugh - what you come away with, is being filled with light. @mistie_loves_louis_v @outoad53
