Spotify has been a saving grace for me during this pandemic. I resisted for so long because I fundamentally feel that they don’t charge enough for all the music that they offer. When you think about television and film content, no platform has all the shows and movies available for $10/month. I truly wish Spotify paid artists higher royalty rates and prompted users to tip artists when they are repeat listeners. But for discovery, Spotify is priceless. I go on deep dives for music, searching for something I’ve never heard before that will go into heavy rotation. I have a habit of finding a new song I really like and then opening up a radio station for that song to see what else comes up. Over the course of November, I unearthed a bunch of songs, new to me. Many of them are fairly recent, independently released tunes, and a few are older ones that I simply didn’t know. And with that, I created the first of what I hope will be a monthly playlist series called New To Me.
