We have recently launched our Key Works for Lily van der Stokker's exhibition 'Thank you Darling' using our Digital Guide on the Bloomberg Connects App 🔎 'Thank You Wall Painting' (1944) is one of these Key Works and one of Lily van der Stokker’s early, colourful and optimistic wall works. Featuring a repeated pattern of flowers (one of the only figurative elements van der Stokker allows herself in her compositions) and accompanied by a vibrant red armchair and a vase of real flowers, the work speaks to comfort and pleasure – celebrating art and colour, and inviting the viewer to pause and indulge in aesthetic joy. However, despite its apparent frivolity, this work has a political core. When van der Stokker first started painting flowers in the late 1980s, the flower was considered a forbidden symbol in the art world, denigrated to the sphere of the feminine and domestic and thus considered not intellectual. To find out more about Lily van der Stokker's key works, and the messages behind the paintings, download the Bloomberg Connects app and experience Camden Art Centre in a whole new way. Come and see 'Thank you Wallpainting' for yourself this weekend. 🌺🌼🌸 @bloombergconnects
